How to Make Soft and Fluffy Dairy-Free Banana Pancakes with Honey that the Kids Will Love!

Hi! I’m Julie, a military spouse, mom of three, and the blogger behind Our Beautiful Chaos.

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know that most of what I share comes from real life in our home. Busy days, military family life, feeding my boys safely, and finding ways to still put good, comforting food on the table without spending my whole day in the kitchen.

In our family, dairy-free living isn’t a choice or a trend. It’s something we navigate every single day because one of my boys has a life-threatening dairy allergy. That means everything I make has to be safe, but it also has to feel normal, filling, and something everyone actually enjoys eating!

That’s why I care so much about recipes like this one. They make it possible for all of us to enjoy the same food together, without worry.

These dairy-free banana pancakes are one of those breakfasts I come back to over and over again because they’re simple, affordable, filling, and my boys genuinely love them.

And honestly, mornings in my military family home can feel chaotic sometimes.

There are days where everyone is hungry at once, someone can’t find their shoes, the toddler is crying, and I’m just trying to get breakfast onto the table before the whole house melts down.

That’s exactly why recipes like this matter to me.

They use basic ingredients I usually already have in the kitchen, they come together quickly, and the bananas and honey give them enough natural sweetness that the kids think they’re getting a treat.

If you’re a military family or military service member needing dairy free recipes that are realistic for everyday life, this is exactly the kind of recipe I hope helps make things easier.

Most of these ingredients are easy to grab at the commissary too, which makes this a great budget-friendly breakfast option for busy weeks.

And the best part?

Nobody even realizes they’re dairy-free.

Now let’s head into the kitchen and make this together!

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Non-stick skillet or griddle
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Ladle or batter scoop

Ingredients

Serves 4 to 5

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 to 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 ¼ cups non-dairy milk (we usually use oat milk)
  • 3 tbsp dairy-free butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 to 4 tbsp honey, plus extra for serving
  • Extra dairy-free butter or oil for cooking

Step by Step Instructions

Blend ripe bananas with non-dairy milk until smooth.

This creamy base gives the pancakes moisture and natural sweetness.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Pour banana-milk mixture into the dry bowl. Stir in melted dairy free butter, honey, and egg.

Mix gently until combined, some lumps are okay!

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat with a little dairy free butter or oil.

Pour in batter for the size pancakes you want.

Cook until bubbles form and edges look set, then flip and cook 1–2 minutes more.

Step 5 – Serve and enjoy

Serve warm, drizzled with more honey or topped with fresh fruit.

  • Add cinnamon for extra warmth and flavor

Notes and Troubleshooting

NOTES

  • The riper the bananas, the sweeter the pancakes will taste
  • Oat milk gives the fluffiest texture in our experience
  • Don’t overmix the batter or the pancakes can become dense
  • Small pancakes are easier to flip for younger helpers in the kitchen

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Pancakes too dense? Your batter may have been overmixed. Stir gently next time.
  • Pancakes burning too quickly? Lower the heat slightly and cook slower.
  • Batter too thick? Add a splash more non-dairy milk.
  • Pancakes falling apart? Wait until bubbles form across the surface before flipping.
