Ingredients

For the dough

  • 1 cup warm dairy-free milk almond, oat, or soy all work well
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup dairy-free butter, softened
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt

For the filling

  • 1/3 cup dairy-free butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon

For the frosting

  • 1/4 cup dairy-free butter, softened
  • 4 oz dairy-free cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tbsp dairy-free milk to loosen if needed optional

Instructions

  • Add the warm dairy-free milk, sugar, and yeast to the bowl of your stand mixer. Stir gently and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
    If it does not foam, start again with fresh yeast.
  • Add the egg and softened dairy-free butter, then add the flour and sprinkle the salt on top.
    Attach the dough hook and mix on low until a rough dough forms, then increase to medium speed and knead for 6 to 8 minutes until soft, smooth, and elastic.
    Adjust with a little flour or milk if needed.
  • Remove the dough, shape into a ball, and place it back into the bowl. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 16 x 10 inches.
    Spread the dairy-free butter over the surface, then sprinkle over the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 8 large rolls. Place them into a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for 30 to 40 minutes until puffy.
  • Bake at 350°F for 18 to 25 minutes until golden on top and cooked through.
  • While the rolls bake, beat together the dairy-free butter and dairy-free cream cheese until smooth.
    Add powdered sugar and vanilla and mix until creamy, adding a splash of dairy-free milk if needed.
  • Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Dairy-free butter and cream cheese brands can vary slightly in texture
  • Oat milk gives the softest dough in this recipe
