Easy Dairy-Free Fluffy Cinnamon Rolls From Scratch!

How to Make Soft and Gooey Dairy-Free Cinnamon Rolls at Home Without Missing a Thing!
Hi! I’m Julie, and welcome back to Our Beautiful Chaos!
If you’ve been here a while you’ll know that most of what we cook in this house has to work for everyone at the table. That means navigating a life-threatening dairy allergy while still trying to create meals that feel comforting, fun, and worth gathering around.
And today’s recipe is one of those that truly feels like a win.
Because cinnamon rolls are one of those “special” bakes. The kind that feel a little bit indulgent. The kind that fill the house with that warm, cozy smell and make everyone wander into the kitchen asking when they’ll be ready.
But for a long time, they just weren’t something I could easily make for all of us.
Until now.

I absolutely love my friend Mona’s big, fluffy, bakery-style cinnamon rolls over at Far From The Farm. She actually came over during one of my husband’s deployments, spent time with me and the boys, and we talked through how to adapt her recipe into something that would work for our home.
And that’s exactly what this is.
A dairy-free version of those soft, fluffy, oversized cinnamon rolls that still feel like a rreal treat.
This recipe has completely transformed those “bougie breakfast” moments in our home. No separate meals. No one left out. Just one tray of warm, gooey cinnamon rolls that everyone can enjoy together.
And yes, you can absolutely grab dairy-free cinnamon rolls in a can these days. Honestly, props to Walmart because that has made life easier.
But there is something really special about making them from scratch.

That smile makes every bit of effort in the kitchen completely worth it.
Knowing exactly what’s in them. Adjusting flavors to your family. And pulling a tray of fresh, homemade cinnamon rolls out of your own oven.
As a military family working through deployments, busy days, and our own version of everyday chaos, recipes like this matter. They bring comfort, they bring a sense of normal, and they turn an ordinary morning into something that feels just a little bit special.
So take a moment and come bake with me. You’re going to love these!

Makes 8 large fluffy cinnamon rolls
For the Dough
- 1 cup warm dairy-free milk (almond, oat, or soy all work well)
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup dairy-free butter, softened
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 tsp salt
For the Filling
- 1/3 cup dairy-free butter, softened
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
For the Dairy-Free Frosting
- 1/4 cup dairy-free butter, softened
- 7 oz tub of dairy-free cream cheese, softened (we love the Violife brand!)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 to 2 tbsp dairy-free milk to loosen if needed
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Activate the yeast

Add the warm dairy-free milk, sugar, and yeast to your stand mixer bowl.
Stir gently and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy. If it does not foam, start again with fresh yeast.

Step 2: Make the dough
Add in the egg and softened dairy-free butter.

Then add the flour and sprinkle the salt on top.
Attach the dough hook and mix on low until a rough dough forms.
Step 3: Knead
Turn the mixer to medium and knead for 6 to 8 minutes until the dough becomes soft, smooth, and slightly elastic.
If it feels sticky, add flour one tablespoon at a time. If it feels dry, add a small splash of dairy-free milk.

Step 4: First rise
Shape the dough into a ball and place it back into the bowl.
Cover with plastic wrap, food cover or a towel and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 5: Roll out the dough and add the filling

Lightly flour your surface and roll the dough into a rectangle, roughly 16 x 10 inches.
Spread the softened dairy-free butter all over the surface.

Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle it evenly across the dough.

Step 6: Roll and cut

Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log.
Slice into 8 large rolls using a knife.

Step 7: Second rise
Place the rolls into your baking dish.
Cover loosely and let them rise for 30 to 40 minutes until puffy.

Step 8: Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 18 to 25 minutes until golden on top.
Step 9: Make the frosting
While the rolls bake, beat together the dairy-free butter and dairy-free cream cheese until smooth.

Add powdered sugar and vanilla, then mix until creamy.
Add a splash of dairy-free milk if needed to loosen.
Step 10: Frost and serve
Spread the frosting over the warm rolls so it melts into every swirl.

Serve warm and enjoy!
