Easy Dairy-Free Pigs in a Blanket (Kid-Approved & Allergy-Friendly)
Pigs in a blanket! These were one of my favorite things to eat growing up. As a food allergy mom, it can be hard to find packaged foods that don’t contain dairy, so when I realized that Hillshire Farm Beef Lit’l Smokies and Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls were dairy-free, it felt like a huge win for our family. Especially since I was looking for easy dairy-free snacks to make for the Super Bowl!
These were fast, easy, and best of all kid-approved. They also make a great cheap and quick option for lunch or dinner on busy days.
This recipe was another reminder to myself that dairy-free doesn’t always have to be complicated, and I can still feed my kids foods I loved growing up.

What You’ll Need
- Sheet pan
- Parchment paper
Ingredients
- 1 package Hillshire Farm Beef Lit’l Smokies Smoked Sausage (12 oz)
- 1 can Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls (8 oz / 8 count)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the crescent roll package.
- Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
- Open the Hillshire Farm Beef Lit’l Smokies and drain them if there is any liquid—you don’t want them too wet when wrapping.
- Open the can of Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls. It comes with 8 triangles. Cut each triangle into 3–4 strips. Since the Lit’l Smokies are small, you only need a little dough for each one.
- Wrap each smokie with a strip of crescent dough and place it on the sheet pan.
- Leave a little space between each one, as the dough will puff while baking.
- Bake according to the crescent roll package directions (temps and times can vary).
- Let cool slightly, then serve. My kids love these with ketchup and mustard!
Family Note
For our family, I used 2 packages of Hillshire Farm Beef Lit’l Smokies and 2 cans of Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls.
Allergy Mom Reminder 💛
As always, please read ingredient labels every time. Just because these two products are safe right now for Adrian, who has an anaphylactic dairy allergy, doesn’t mean ingredients won’t change. I always double check labels, even on products that have been safe before.

Storage Tips
- Refrigerator: Store leftover pigs in a blanket in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3–4 days.
- Reheating: Reheat in the oven or air fryer to help keep the dough crispy. The microwave works too, but the dough will be softer.
- Lunch Prep: These are great for make-ahead lunches or quick after-school snacks.
